Shell Shock
We live in layers—of time, perception, and reality. Sometimes, what seems unrelated converges in ways too precise to ignore, revealing an unseen order beneath the everyday. Shell Shock explores this layered existence through painted plastic sculptures that shift and transform with light.
I chose plastic deliberately—it defines our era, surrounds us, even exists within us. But this series was also shaped by something beyond choice. While searching for the right material, I stumbled upon discarded rolls of transparent plastic—perfect for layering, and, astonishingly, adhesive, just as I had envisioned. A discovery too coincidental to dismiss, it became the foundation of this work, reinforcing the idea that when we become aware, patterns emerge, and new realities unfold.
The sculptures in Shell Shock echo the forms of shells—protective, enclosing, yet ultimately breakable. They remind us that the body, like a shell, is not the limit of who we are. And sometimes, it takes a shock to crack open our perception, allowing us to see beyond the surface.
